You may not be familiar with diopside as it's not widely available, especially in high street jewellers. This diopside is no longer mined where it was originally found, making it more rare by the day. It's now known as Imperial diopside.

Diopside is a rare gemstone because the mines are located in very remote areas of Siberia where, due to snow and freezing conditions, miners can only gain access to the area for a few months each year.

Diopside is said to be the green that an emerald wants to be - it's rich hue is of the deepest forest green. I must say, it's one of my personal favourite gemstones.
